Lofgren Salt-N-Pepper Railroad Shirts Are Back At Speedway!

Here's a note from Speedway owner John Lofgren:

The new Lofgren Traditional Garment railroad work shirts just got in. The shirts are similar to the last run but come in black and brown salt-n-pepper chambray and feature wine color bar tack stitching. See attached photos.
At the time of writing this there's about 50 shirts left, so don't hesitate if you want to get one. The shirt is about 1 inch shorter than the other Lofgren shirts produced in the past so they look good untucked in warmer weather, but tucking in is still an option for guys of average height. We're keeping the price the same as before: $139.00. And yes, that includes free shipping. You can simply Paypal $139.00 to shopatspeedway@hotmail.com and include the color and size you want. You can check out the latest goods at their Japanese site.

We will send by EMS, which is fast, fully insured and comes with a tracking number too.
The sizes are 36, 38, 40, 42 & 44. Overall shrinkage after a soaking or wash will be approx. 1 inch. See below for pre-soak sizing.

"The Postman Always Rings Twice" - Old Redford Theatre

The Old Redford Theatre will be showing the classic film noir movie "The Postman Always Rings Twice" this weekend (July 23rd/24th) on the big screen. Shot in 1946, it stars both Lana Turner and John Garfield. In case you've never heard of it, here's the plot synopsis courtesy of IMDB:

"A drifter hitches a ride from the local District Attorney to an 'out of the way' restaurant/gas station owned by a man and his beautiful wife. They fall in love and together they plot the murder of her husband."

Did I mention the ticket price is a measly $4? That and a great old timey concession stand in a rehabbed 1929 Chinese pagoda themed theatre makes this a must! They even have an organ player before and during the intermission!

Here's a bunch of vintage mug shots I found on Flickr put on by a user called Least Wanted. Not sure if he' affiliated with the book of the same title, but he's got a nice collection of stuff on there.

Whiskey Is The Life of Man

Whiskey Is The Life Of Man
Oh whiskey is the life of man
Always was since the world began

Whiskey-o, Johnny-o
Rise her up from down below
Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey-o
Up aloft this yard must go
John rise her up from down below

Now whiskey made me pawn me clothes
And whiskey gave me a broken nose

Whiskey-o, Johnny-o
Rise her up from down below
Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey-o
Up aloft this yard must go
John rise her up from down below

Now whiskey is the life of man
Whiskey from an old tin can

Whiskey-o, Johnny-o
Rise her up from down below
Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey-o
Up aloft this yard must go
John rise her up from down below

I thought I heard the first mate say
I treats me crew in a decent way

Whiskey-o, Johnny-o
Rise her up from down below
Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey-o
Up aloft this yard must go
John rise her up from down below

A glass of whiskey all around
And a bottle full for the shanty man

Whiskey-o, Johnny-o
Rise her up from down below
Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey-o
Up aloft this yard must go
John rise her up from down below

Shout Bamalama Podcast

After recently re-discovering Garagepunk.com, I was pleasantly surprised to find the podcast "Shout Bamalama" show! Hosted by Count Brockula, it features a slew of black rockers, R&B, blues boppers and trashy rock. Not sure who this cat is, but we've got very similar taste in music...dig it!
