Standing as one of the world's finest examples of Art Deco, Detroit's Guardian Building is a mecca for fans from all over the world. The Guardian was commissioned and built in 1928 - 1929 by the Union Trust Company and designed the by the firm of Smith, Hinchman & Grylls. It's one of my favorite places to take visiting friends. Here's some photos from a recent visit:
One of the most amazing features at the Detroit Institute of Art's is this mural depicting Detroit's auto. industry by Diego Rivera. It was completed in 11 months between April 1932 and March 1933. Commissioned by Edsel Ford (son of Henry Ford), it portrayed workers of different races working together along with some other touchy subject matter. Rivera even snuck himself into the paintings (hint...he's wearing a bowler).
1960's biker culture in Detroit as documented by an insider. Beverly Roberts, daughter of Outlaws MC member Jim Miteff (1965 - 1969), has published two volumes of never before seen photos! Detroit's own Metro Times has an in depth article HERE. You can buy them directly from Beverly HERE!
With the destruction of many old buildings going on in Detroit, things are often popping up to reveal themselves. Here's one that I've passed by many times on Michigan Ave., but never had the time to capture. Thanks to Dan for this one!
After having had the opportunity to see Andre perform both in Cleveland and Detroit last weekend, I can truly say it was a great pleasure to see him in such good form. His voice is strong and his stage presence was amazing! Special kudos to Detroit's own Party Stompers for doing such a fantastic job of backing him up. Here's a few pics I took at the show. Sadly, the sound on the videos is poor...time for better recording device?
