Camp Claiborne Louisiana 1944

Borrowed these three spectacular photos from my good friend Tommy Dorr over at Lost & Found Vintage. They feature Army trainees clowning around on military Harley's from 1944 at Camp Claiborne. The camp was the training base for over 1/2 a million men between 1939 and 1946.

1950's Carhartt Chore Caps

Both incorrectly listed as 1940's, these two caps went for $204 and $253 respectively. Quite a heft sum to pay for a cap of any era! Also surprised that the thin striped version went for less money as it's definitely rarer and more attractive in my opinion (eBay monkey business perhaps?).

Rest In Peace Eddie Kirkland

Gypsy bluesman Eddie Kirkland was killed yesterday morning in an automobile accident with a Greyhound Bus. He was 88 years old. God bless him! He was still performing regularly and will be missed by many, many fans. He recorded many of his amazing early sessions under the name Eddie Kirk. Here's a sampling of some of my favorites:

Tom Scott - "Record Hop"

Men's File Magazine

Described as a "modern magazine tracing the roots of style", Men's File is off to a roaring start. Covering artists & artisans as well as a wide variety of fashion & lifestyle subjects. There is also a glamorous style girlie spread (no vulgar nudity or poses thank you very much) that wouldn't make you blush if your mother took a peek at it. I also had the good fortune to run into staff photog Nick Clements at the Inspiration show in Long Beach. Nick is responsible for many of the amazing photo spreads in Men's File. You can pick up the mag in the U.S. on line at Self-Edge or any of the RRL stores in NYC.
