"Emperor of the North" (1973) - Theatrical Trailer

Watched this flick over the weekend! Fairly interesting early 70's film about hobos, trains and the Great Depression. Lots and lots of workwear and Lee Marvin kicking ass to boot.

1930's Wool & Leather Shawl Collar Mackinaw Coat

This is one spectacular example of a 1930's wool Mackinaw coat with leather trim! Given the rarity of the XL size and good condition, it's no surprise it sold for nearly $1,300 on eBay recently. No manf. tag, but could easily be a Hercules from Sears. Congrats' to the new owner! They are definitely going to stay warm this winter.

H.W. Carter & Sons

H.W. Carter & Sons are making their foray into the world of reignited heritage brands. So far, so good in my opinion. Available now on their SITE are aprons and bandanas....surely there will be more to come fast and furious in the near future. I picked up the bandana in navy blue and it's beautifully done and man sized!

Founder and owner David Himel has been busy busting my chops for not having posted on Rivet Head about his fine leather wares. They aren't cheap, but if you are looking for something that is special and will surely last a lifetime he's your man! Hit em' up HERE or HERE! RIP Johnny Otis (December 28, 1921 - January 17, 2012)

Johnny Otis (Ioannis Alexandres Veliotes) was born in 1921, the son of Greek immigrants. He grew up in a predominantly black neighborhood and absorbed all the richness of the musical culture of the day. He is best remembered for his hit "Willie and the Hand Jive", but his musical prowess extends way beyond one pop hit. Credited with launching LITTLE RICHARD (he fronted his studio band) and Etta James (produced her first hit "Roll With Me, Henry") careers, he brought us the Johnny Otis Show as well as Snatch & the Poontangs! He was an A&R man for King records and discovered seminal acts like Willie Mae Thornton, Jackie Wilson and Hank Ballard. Thank you and RIP Johnny, we salute you!!!

Crime In The Streets (1956)

Tough guys from broken homes lead to broken bottles and broken bones. "Crime In The Streets" is a classic 1950's gang movie that stars John Cassavetes, James Whitmore and Sal Mineo. Rife with all the stereotypes surrounding juvenile delinquency, the plot is about a social worker trying to help out some inner-city boys escape their own base desires. One of the better films out there on the subject matter in my opinion. It's included in the AMC Film Noir Classic Collection 5.

"Touch of Evil" at the DFT

Orson Welle's masterpiece will be showing at the Detroit Film Theater tomorrow January 14th at 4pm! More info HERE!

"Orson Welles’ noir masterwork about the downfall of corrupt police detective Hank Quinlan (a padded, putty-nosed, whale-sized Welles) was severely cut by the studio upon its initial release; nevertheless, it quickly gained an underground reputation as one of Welles’s most brilliantly atmospheric and emotionally evocative films. This 1998 restoration was based on the famous Welles memo to studio heads, describing precisely what his final cut should look like. The swirling camerawork and delirious, seamy plot twists are richer than ever in this definitive version, featuring memorable performances from Welles, Charlton Heston, Janet Leigh, Ray Collins, Akim Tamiroff, Joseph Calleia as Quinlan’s misguidedly loyal partner, and, best of all, Dennis Weaver in a small but indelible role as the seedy Mirador Motel’s manic, demented “night man.” Cameos by longtime Welles associate Joseph Cotten, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and the great Marlene Dietrich as the owner of a bordello whose chili “may be too hot for you.” (112 min.)"

Found Photos January 2012

Here's a few interesting shots I've found over the last month or so at the flea market. I particularly like the one of the three young ladies dressed up in chap's clothing...what a hoot!
