Solid Color Shawl Collar Sweaters - Archival Clothing

Blogger extraordinaire and clothing manf. Archival Clothing just released for purchase a great Made in U.S.A. 100% wool shawl collar sweater. They are made by Centralia Knitting Mills using the same machines the used back in the 1930's. The site shows them available in navy, red and gray. At $180 they are a good bargain and I think the collar shape is one of the most period correct I've seen so far. The multi-color is a little more at $220. Pick them up HERE!

Hmm...I think I've found my Christmas present.

But on second thought...28" sleeves for a L/XL???

Matt Strickland said...

I'm sure that's from the shoulder seam to the cuff...not from the middle of the neck to the end of the cuff.

Really? Wouldn't it be the other way around? I'm 6' and need sleeves 25" from shoulder seam-cuff end...if someone needs 28" sleeves they must have arms like a monkey!

Can't see the sleeve cuffs in the pics...maybe they're meant to be folded over?

I think you've figured it out....probably long so you can put a cuff on it. I seriously doubt this company would make sleeves that are way too short or way too long.

Yeah, that's got to be it...strange they don't have a pic of the sleeves...maybe I'll email them to be sure. Are you getting one?

I want the gray one, but it's not showing up on the site in XL...sent them an email.

Rivet-

I saw your comment on our blog and followed over to your site. Very nice. To answer your question: the sleeve measurement is from the shoulder to the end of the cuff. The sweaters come with a robust 6" cuff that is meant to be either rolled up or down depending on use.

Let me know if you have any questions. As cyclists, we definitely design our clothing for functional, active, everyday use.

Thanks Lesli! Do you have the gray in XL?

Lesli Larson said...

Apologies--

We just have navy in XL right now.

Thanks for the heads up Leslie. Any chance you'll have them soon?

i've been looking for a good modern vintage-looking shawl collar cardigan for some time and i'm tempted by these.
i wish the collar was the wider style, but these are probably the closest to the 20s/30s look i've seen... unless anyone can suggest another ?

I agree LJ....most of the stuff you see at J Crew or Gap have a really modern looking collar on them. I think there might be some other similar brands out there, but these are made in USA, so I'm getting one.

We'll be getting more navy shawl cardigans in Feb or so. This sweater is based on original historical patterns. It's a sweater Centralia has been making since the 1930s. We're huge fans of shawl collars and prefer the slightly more narrow shawl of the Centralia model:
