Los StraitjacketsLos Straitjackets have been making their brand of raucous, instrumental rock since 1994, and have become known as one of the most dynamic and skillful instrumental bands on the planet. Their renowned live show is filled with mind-bending guitar theatrics, group choreography and fuzzed-out experiments in high fidelity rock and roll showmanship.
And, don't forget the wrestling masks each band member wears onstage. Right before the band's first gig – back when they were still just The Straitjackets – Amis pulled out a bag of wrestling masks he'd bought in Mexico City. Los Straitjackets were born! In the past few years, this gimmick has been brought full circle as the band's last two gigs in Mexico City have been in front of stadium-sized crowds.
The band's music can also be heard in on soundtracks for TV shows including “Malcolm in the Middle” and at least 10 feature films, including “Meet the Parents,” “Harriet the Spy,” “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room” and “Two Days in the Valley.” They appear as themselves in “Psycho Beach Party.”
They are also a favorite of (former NBC) funny man Conan O'Brien, and have appeared on his “Late Night” program about a half dozen times, most recently in January to perform "Fortune Cookie," from their new album The Further Adventures of Los Straitjackets.

Del MoroccosStarting up in 2006, The Del Moroccos are a powerful 8 piece Rock n' Roll band (guitar, bass, drums, piano, tenor/bari sax, and 3 sexy frontwomen) who put out an awesome full-length show of dirty R'N'R and R&B material with girl-group vocals. Knock the Rayettes, Bo Diddley and Link Wray together, with a blast of garage, a hit of late '50s black rock n' roll, dress 'em up like Johnny Cash, and you get a raucous, mean mix of "Soulful ’50s garage." A perfect Quentin Tarantino soundtrack!

JD McPhersonWith a strong singing voice that moves from smooth and sweet, to raw and rockin' on a dime, JD McPherson channels Little Richard, James Brown, Charlie Feathers, to name a few. Hi-Style Records is excited to present the debut release by JD McPherson, Signs & Signifiers!

The DyesChicago-based trio, The Dyes, infuse ’60s inspired garage-rock with infectious ’50s rockabilly undertones to create a punchy and melodic, yet raw rock n' roll sound. By digging up the roots of influences such as: Hank Williams, The Cramps, Wanda Jackson, and The Flat Duo Jets, this female-fronted trio is sure to catch the ears of a wide-spectrum of music lovers as they toss hints of punk, surf, blues, and country into the mix, and stir it up with their own unique twist.

Souvenir of the U.S.S. Crane DD-109

Picked up this neat little chalkware figure in a trade recently. Comes from via a U.S. Navy sailor that served aboard the U.S.S. Crane. The Crane was a Wickes-class destroyer built at the Bethlehem Shipyard and launched in 1918. It served as an escort to the George Washington in the Atlantic and was later commissioned to the Pacific fleet. Not sure exactly when this piece was made, but I would guess during or before WWII.

Half Face Harrow

I'm sure many of you have been watching the exciting new HBO series Boardwalk Empire. Set in 1920's prohibition era Atlantic City, one reoccurring character is WWI vet Richard "Half Face" Harrow. Inspiration for his disfigurement comes directly from history itself. Prosthetic masks were used in lieu of plastic surgery to hide many veteran's facial disfigurements. Here's a pic of Half Face and couple of vintage post-WWI era related photos:

Sweater Weather....

A chill is in the air and pocketbooks are getting dented left and right! Here's another tasty 1930's shawl collar that sold for over $400 on eBay recently. Gotta love this style:
